Department of Public Health (HPI) was first established in FK Unand in 1967 with the head of the first part is dr. Hari Purnomo, and assisted by two staff members, dr. Bastian Manalu and dr. Sabaruddin Abbas. Then go dr. Zulkarnain Agus and dr. Faisal R. Djamal.

Along the way, the staff HPI increased by the inclusion of dr. Saidal Bahauddin which was originally part of Physical Medicine staff to the HPI. So is dr. Anwar Idris, moved from the Histology and dr. Nadra B. Anwar of Clinical Pathology section to section IKM. HPI staff section then increased again with the inclusion of dr. Luknis Sabri, dr. Hafni Bakhtiar, dr. Edison, dr. Suhasyril and subsequently in the presence of SMEs as the current staff.

The first part Professor of Public Health Sciences is Prof. FK Unand. Dr.. Sabaruddin Abbas, MPH, followed by prof. Dr.. Faisal R. Djamal, MPH and in 2010 reestablished a Professor at the HPI is Prof. Dr.. dr. Rizanda Machmud, Kes.



The current teaching staff consists of 11 people IKM.

One lecturer doctorate namely: Dr. dr. Rosfita Rashid, Kes is a graduate of the Graduate University of Indonesia, joined at the IKM in 2011.
Meanwhile there are 5 people who are in the SME staff S3 education within and outside the country, namely dr. Edison, MPH (Unand), dr. Yuniar Lestari, Kes (Unand), dr. Rima Semiarty, MARS (Unand), dr. Firdawati, Kes (UKM, Malaysia), dr. Husna Yetti (Japan).
Two people were in the education staff HPI S2, namely dr. Ida R. Burhan (Unand), dr. Nelmi Silvia (FK UI).
One staff person had entered the part of SMEs in 2011 Abdiana, SKM, M. Epid.

Education activities in Section IKM

Educational activities for students to stage pre clinics are now dispersed and integrated into 21 blocks. While educational activities for students of clinical stage (professional), part of SMEs conducting Preceptor ship for 4 weeks on campus and off campus. Off-campus educational process carried out in four health centers in the health center Andalas Padang, Pauh health centers, health centers and health center Ambacang Kuranji Lubuk Kilangan. In addition to carrying out the process of learning about the management of health services, student health centers are also involved in the implementation of the health center program planning problem-solving as well as those found in the clinic as a form of experiential learning. In addition there is also a practice Hiperkes conducted in PT Semen Padang.
